Office Skills Training

The Fedcap Career Design School’s Office Skills Training Program

450 hours/18 weeks

This program blends traditional office administration skills such as typing and filing with current computer technology and applications. With an increasing need for employees with knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, this program is intended to provide entry-level skills for employment. The objective of this program is to train students to be able to find a job in a professional business or other office with computer application skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, as well as skills to perform routine administrative, clerical, telephone and reception procedures.

Students use the most up-to-date computers and Microsoft Office software to learn keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, records management, business math, office procedures, and customer service.

Office Skills Job Opportunities:
Students are prepared for entry-level positions in the corporate and nonprofit sectors, including administrative assistant, receptionist, and office assistant. Graduates have obtained jobs at Océ Business Services, Penguin Putnam, Fedcap Office Services, and many others.

Fedcap is a standard bearer in the field of vocational rehabilitation. Training people with disabilities and other barriers for competitive employment has been at the core of our mission for over 75 years and our innovative approach has served as a model for hundreds of other nonprofit agencies that serve people with disabilities.

Before enrolling in our training programs you must first come to us for a thorough Diagnostic Vocational Evaluation or through a referral from a vocational rehabilitation state agency like New York’s ACCES-VR or New Jersey’s DVR.

Once training is finished, Fedcap provides students with job placement assistance, including interview and resume preparation, placement counseling, and practical workshops that give our graduates the skills and savvy to negotiate professional environments and employer expectations. Once Fedcap graduates are hired they are offered an individualized support and counseling program to help them negotiate the transition to the workforce.

Fedcap Career Design School training fees can be paid for through sponsoring agencies such as the New York State Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services - Vocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR), the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped (CBVH), the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the New Jersey Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), and others.
