The quality of life for people with disabilities still lags significantly behind that for other Americans. Here are some statistics from the 2000 US Census:
- 29% of people with disabilities ages 18-64 work full or part-time, as compared to 79% of people without disabilities.
- The rate for high school graduation of people with disabilities is half of those without disabilities.
- Almost three times as many adults with disabilities live in a household with an annual income of less than $15,000 compared to adults without disabilities.
- 10% of people with disabilities own their own homes, as compared to 71% of those without disabilities.
Fedcap’s job training and employment programs help people with disabilities join the economic mainstream. Here are some examples of our accomplishments:
- 600 people with disabilities are employed by Fedcap at industry-standard wages with benefits.
- The vast majority are graduates of our own training programs.
- 91% of graduates who are placed in jobs with Fedcap are still employed a year later.
Fedcap’s goal is to maintain and/or exceed these benchmarks every year, and expand our training and employment programs to provide more opportunities for those who need them most.
