Teaching, Training, Toward Transition

Where School & Careers Meet ...

Fedcap School ImageThe Fedcap School is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities. Through a unique work-study curriculum, students ages 14 through 21 and classified as Cognitively Impaired, Multiply Disabled, Behaviorally Disabled or Learning Disabled learn to effectively handle life's challenges so they can lead full, meaningful, independent and productive lives. The Fedcap School provides students and their families with guidance and support on the path to independence.

The Fedcap School offers vocational training programs, facilities and personnel based in Fedcap’s 75-year history of successfully providing training and jobs for thousands of people with disabilities and other barriers. This tradition of excellence is reflected throughout the curriculum and program.

Fedcap School students are highly motivated as NJCCCS academics are integrated with vocational interests, with special emphasis on functional literacy and mathematics. The school day goes from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with half the day spent on vocational pursuits. At age 16, students are integrated into community internships.

Each student’s academic instruction is shaped by his or her Individualized Educational Plan and tailored to his or her specific learning styles. Classroom strategies focus on differentiated instruction and individual learning stations. Students receive instruction in English, Science, Social Studies, Math, Physical Education/Health, Computers and Career Education, and participate in required HSPA or APA State testing.
