Nurse Practitioner

Mental Health Outpatient Services

The Nurse Practitioner is a provider of direct mental health care services. Primary mental health care provided by the Nurse Practitioner involves the continuous and comprehensive services necessary for the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention and treatment of psychiatric disorders and health maintenance. This includes the assessment and management of mental health problems and psychiatric disorders.

Essential Functions

  • Provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment
  • Psychotropic medication treatment
  • Development, maintenance and supervision of medication administration and psychiatric and medical treatment
  • Participate in weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • Participate in weekly supervision

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated competency and the ability to perform advanced assessment and diagnosis
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated mastery of nursing concepts and principles and ability to identify and use appropriate concepts and principles from related sciences
  • Requires current CPR certification

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner with a Psychiatry specialty by NYS Education Department
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Certified as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
