NJ School Art Teacher - Part Time

Department:   Youth/Young Adult Services –Beyond Permanency™ Division 

Position Reports to:  School Principal

Location: New Jersey

Fedcap’s NJ School provides Youth/Young Adult, 14 to 21 years of age, classified as Cognitively Impaired, Multiply Disabled, Behaviorally Disabled or Learning Disabled with a unique work-study curriculum where they learn to effectively handle life’s challenges so they can lead full, meaningful, independent and productive lives. The Fedcap School provides students and their families with guidance and support on the path to independence.

 

Job Description:
Assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in the visual arts and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards, using approved curricula, materials, and directives of the school. Achieving academic excellence requires that the Art Teacher work collaboratively with other members of the school staff and with parents.

Duties and responsibilities of the School Teachers will include, but not be limited to, the following:

- Provide instruction in the proper use of artistic materials and equipment, ensuring safe use.
- Prepare orders for art supplies and equipment within the approved budget, following established purchasing procedures.
- Maintain an inventory and store in an approved fashion all art supplies.
- Maintain in safe working condition all art equipment
- Serve as a role model for students by cultivating personal artistic talents and creating artistic work.
- Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously.
- Provide and effectively organize a variety of materials, equipment, media, and community resources to support the instructional program, using school approved procedures.
- Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance classroom learning.
- Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively bringing to closure instructional experiences.
- Submit lesson plans in the approved format to the Principal or designated supervisor as required and requested.
- Use effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
- Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.

Skills Required: 

- A Bachelor’s degree in Art or Fine Arts with an emphasis in education. A Master’s degree preferred.
- New Jersey Teacher of Art Certification and licensure 
- Pass criminal background check 
- At least two years of full-time teaching experience in an urban school 
- Experience teaching art classes high school students
- Able to spot and cultivate talent and help all students discover their creativity.
- Computer literate, able to use Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
- Have strong collaborative planning skills, commitment to multicultural and developmental education, and a demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with diverse populations
- Special Education Certification 
- Bilingual a plus
